When Donald Trump met with North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-Un, he stared intensely into the other man’s soul to find a bond nearly as special as the one he shares with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, it would seem that Trump’s summer bromance may be over as quickly as it began, after reports of upgrades to one of North Korea’s research facilities.
According to North Korea watchdog 38 North, recent satellite photos revealed that North Korea’s progressing quickly with upgrades to its Yongbyon Nuclear Scientific Research Center.
The improvements include what appears to be completed construction on the facility’s water cooling reservoir, a spanking brand-new water pump house, multiple new buildings, and a pretty boss and apparently active radiochemical laboratory. Not too shabby, considering that Trump announced that North Korea was utterly disarmed after the summit.
However, these images obtained by 38 north paint a different picture.

During the summit, Trump and Kim both signed an agreement that commits the U.S. upholding specific immediate “security guarantees” in exchange for North Korea’s pinky swear to denuclearize the Korean peninsula (someday). One of the things the U.S. promised was the immediate cessation of joint military exercises between South Korea and the U.S. Many, critics of the summit point out that the deal was too vague and gave away too much to North Korea without anything concrete in return.
Now we are starting the see the fruits of Trump’s lazy and self-glorifying diplomacy non-effort with one of the most dangerous regimes on the planet. And so-far the world seems less safe than before Trump embarked on his multimillion-dollar photo-op with his new favorite dictator.
Really, Trump, you can stop “winning” anytime now.
