It’s just been reported that last night, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was denied service at a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia — giving her a taste of what it’s like to live in the Trump era. Unfortunately, instead of reflecting on the incident and thinking about how minorities are constantly discriminated against due to the bigotry promoted by her boss Donald Trump, Huckabee Sanders used this moment to punish the restaurant.
Calling out the owner of Red Hen, Huckabee Sanders used her position to publicize the event and get Trump’s supporters riled up:
“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”
TMZ reported that a server at The Red Hen had stated:
“I just served Sarah Huckabee Sanders for a total of 2 minutes before my owner kicked her out along with 7 of her other family members.”
Some have said that the owner was refusing to serve Huckabee Sanders out of “moral conviction.”
Sadly, Huckabee Sanders’ plan to get her revenge on the restaurant owner worked, as her story went viral after Brennan Gilmore, the executive director of Clean Virginia, shared what had happened:
It didn’t take long for Trump’s supporters to begin attacking the restaurant by leaving angry, negative online reviews in defense of the president’s administration members.
It seems as though Trump and his minions have no trouble discriminating against others, but when it happens to them it’s an entirely different story. The way Huckabee Sanders handled this and used her platform to punish the restaurant is vile and should be condemned.
