After multiple news agencies have been reporting over the last week that Michael Cohen was feeling the pinch of the federal investigation he’s under, reporters for CNN took the media inquiry a step further and spoke directly to Cohen’s few remaining friends in the world.
It’s not hard to imagine that the man doesn’t have many actual friends, after a lifetime of screwing everyone over at whatever opportunities offered him the best possible personal benefit. That’s really the only way one could be a lawyer — or “fixer,” or whatever his real job was — for Donald Trump for as long as he has.
A week ago, CBS News reported that Cohen believed Trump and those still close to him inside the administration were turning on him, possibly even leaving Cohen hanging out to dry amid news of his imminent arrest, with sources close to the White House telling CBS that Rudy Giuliani and the rest of Trump’s legal team were making plans to attack Cohen just in case he might “flip” on the president.
By last weekend, CNN was reporting that Cohen was “open to cooperating” with Robert Mueller’s special counsel team, while still insisting that he himself was innocent of any and all charges.
CNN’s latest update has us wondering just who they spoke to because now it’s clear that Michael Cohen is going to sing like a bird. Not only is Cohen in the process of retaining one of America’s premier criminal defense attorneys, Guy Petrillo — a man who once headed the criminal division of the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office — but friends with whom Cohen is still on speaking terms tell CNN that the beleaguered Trump lapdog is ready to spill the beans on his old boss:
“He knows a lot of things about the President and he’s not averse to talking in the right situation.”
Now THAT is some kind of ominous statement. If I were Donald Trump, this might be the time I started reaching back out to my old pal Mike.
