No one speaks their mind like a musician. Specifically a rapper. And when a legendary rapper comes out of the woodworks to highlight Donald Trump’s f**k ups not only as President but as a person, people WILL listen.
In an open letter titled ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words: No time for slippin’ in the so-called “Trump era”, rapper Nasir Jones, who goes by Nas, called out Trump for being a racist and vows to take action to bring awareness and be a voice although he is not into politics.
“I don’t pay attention to politics at the moment. For what? There’s no reason. For me, it doesn’t make any sense. We all know a racist is in office.”
The Grammy-nominated rapper criticized the President’s actions while in office saying
“People can talk their shit. Comedians can sound racist. People can go through their moments of that shit, but when you have the responsibility of being President and you carry on like that, you send a strong message to people outside of your group that they ain’t worth shit,”
Nas, who has always been politically outspoken in songs like ‘What Goes Around’ and ‘Amercian Way’, was clear to let everyone know, Trump doesn’t phase him. It’s the people that President hurts that affects him most.
“The person himself, I’m not caught up with. I don’t even have time for Trump or Pence. I don’t give a f–k. the way [the president] affects people is what affects me.”
We need more rappers like this to action. Focus on protecting the people and stop giving Trump so much attention. We need more people to be the change. Thank you, Nas. Check the full letter out here.
