While speaking at NATO headquarters in Brussels today, Donald Trump thought would be smart to completely admonish world leaders on stage without any reasoning.
Recently, the Trump administration said that #45’s planned remarks would include a U.S. re-commitment to NATO’s Article 5: this provision states that all member nations of the alliance will provide aid and joint defense to an ally who comes under attack. As we know, Donald doesn’t like to do things by the book.
During the speech, Trump briefly brushed on the Manchester Bombing, while denouncing terrorism and babbling on about how this whole incident “binds us all together.” However, failed to mention Article 5, and jumped right into accusing world leaders of being unfair to American taxpayers and not paying enough for collective international defense.
“I have been very, very direct with Secretary Stoltenberg and members of the alliance in saying that NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations. But 23 of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they’re supposed to be paying for their defense. This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States, and many of these nations owe massive amounts of money from past years and not paying in those past years.”
Trump royally screwed that speech up (no surprise there) and his remarks didn’t seem to go over well with the bulk of NATO. You can totally feel the awkward tension. In fact, you don’ have to feel the tension, you can see it just by looking their faces.

It would be nice to hear what they were whispering about, but I’d imagine it would be something like:
“Does this idiot even know what he’s talking about?”
