As President-elect Donald Trump is set to become the next President of the United States in just a few more days, his Twitter activity continues to become more and more disturbing. It’s clear that the former reality television star is spending far more time tweeting and throwing temper tantrums than actually preparing for the very important role he is about to take on.
The amount of time Trump spends on Twitter (along with his reckless behavior) has made many Americans concerned about how Trump’s social media activity will be handled once he is leading the country. If you were wondering whether Trump’s Twitter account would be confiscated, or if he might take on the official @POTUS Twitter account, you finally have your answer – and it’s not what you were hoping to hear.
Despite the fact that the majority of Americans want Trump to cease tweeting and do away with his personal @RealDonaldTrump Twitter account, Trump has of course gone in the opposite direction. He’s not only refusing to use the official @POTUS account, but he’s keeping his!
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Trump bragged about how many more followers he had than the @POTUS Twitter account, and said he’ll keep using that account so he can “let that build up” and continue attacking the press for covering him “dishonestly.” Here’s what Trump said:
“@realDonaldTrump I think, I’ll keep it . . . so I’ve got 46 million people right now — that’s a lot, that’s really a lot — but 46 million — including Facebook, Twitter and ya know, Instagram, so when you think that you’re 46 million there, I’d rather just let that build up and just keep it @realDonaldTrump, it’s working — and the tweeting, I thought I’d do less of it, but I’m covered so dishonestly by the press — so dishonestly — that I can put out Twitter — and it’s not 140, it’s now 280 — I can go bing bing bing . . . and they put it on and as soon as I tweet it out — this morning on television, Fox — ‘Donald Trump, we have breaking news’.”
Trump’s transition team has also confirmed this:
This is beyond disappointing and scary for America. With Trump’s reckless behavior continuing into the White House, we’ll be lucky if we survive four years.
